We have always spayed and neutered our pets at 6 months of age. There are benefits for doing these surgeries at this age but recent studies have created some new ideas for the age, specifically in large breed dogs when it is best to perform these surgeries.
Later spaying and neutering has shown some significant positive health reasons to consider delaying these procedures until the pet is over one year old. This study was done at the University of California Davis School of Veterinary medicine and their findings are available on line. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to one of our veterinarians.
