We Provide Veterinary Ultrasounds
You might be familiar with ultrasounds if you’ve ever known someone who has been pregnant. Ultrasounds are a great diagnostic tool in veterinary medicine as well. We use the same technology that is used on humans; high frequency soundwaves allow us to see your pet’s internal organs in real time. These soundwaves can’t penetrate bone or dense tissue, so ultrasounds are best used for soft tissues, like organs. Additionally, because ultrasounds do not use radiation to take images, they are safe to be used on developing fetuses and other delicate tissues. Ultrasounds are often used in conjunction with radiology.
Digital Radiology to Get to the Bottom of Your Pet’s Issue
Digital radiology is similar to ultrasounds in that it also takes pictures of your pet’s internal systems. However, because digital radiology uses a small dose of radiation to take its pictures, it can penetrate the bone and dense tissue that ultrasounds cannot penetrate. Digital radiology provides still images of these dense tissues or bones. Additionally, it’s important to note that digital radiology’s use of radiation makes it inappropriate for applications to developing fetuses and dense tissues.
One of the best things about both radiology and ultrasonography is that they are completely non-invasive and pain-free. We likely won’t even have to sedate your pet for these procedures. Our veterinary team will do everything we can to keep your pet calm and stress free while we take these images.
