Dr. Anthony P. Scriffignano was born in Newark, NJ. He obtained his undergraduate degree from St. Peter’s college in Jersey City, NJ. Dr. Scriffignano then went on to receive his Doctorate of Veterinary medicine in 1976 from the University of Parma, Italy. “Dr. Scriff,” as he is known, began his own practice, converting what was once a real estate office to what is now the Verona Animal Hospital. In 1985, Dr. Scriff purchased the Montclair Animal Hospital, adding a second location to his practice.
Dr. Scriff is the definition of a true animal lover; taking any opportunity to help all animals. He personally ensures each hospital is staffed with individuals who have the same values on animal care as he does. Dr. Scriff makes it a point to work with numerous rescue organizations including: Fern Dog Rescue, 11th Hour Rescue, and Angels of Animals to improve the quality of life for animals in need. Dr. Scriff’s very own dog was rescued from Paterson after being thrown from a car. “Bella,” as she is now known, receives excellent medical care and all the love she deserves.
In his veterinary practice, Dr. Scriff particularly enjoys animal behavior and training, as well as performing surgery. He has been on the Executive Board of the Zoological Society of New Jersey, and is currently an Honorary Trustee.
Outside of work, family is a top priority. He and his wife, Liz, have been married since 1971. They have three children together; Marisa, Marla, and Paul. Their family also includes their rescue, Bella, and two cats Bosco and Copper. Other outside interest for Dr. Scriff include Ju Jitsu (He has held a black belt since 1968), motorcycles, cars, and high performance driving.
